  3.     It is an international disgrace for an American Marine to
  4. be shown hanging from a rope (NATION, Aug. 14). What is it going
  5. to take for the Bush Administration to realize that military
  6. action is the only way to stop terrorism in the Middle East? In
  7. 1981, at the end of the Iran hostage crisis, Ronald Reagan
  8. promised "swift and effective retribution" in response to any
  9. future terrorist acts against Americans. I believe Lieut.
  10. Colonel William Higgins and other Marines would be alive today
  11. if our political leaders had practiced what they preached.

  15.     The U.S. cannot be held accountable for the safety of its
  16. citizens who choose to live in a precarious land. Those who go
  17. on official U.S. business or of their own accord are well aware
  18. of the possibility of abduction. If they are kidnaped, America
  19. can attempt to rescue them, but terrorists should not be allowed
  20. to hold our entire Government hostage.

  24.     The Israelis are the only ones with the guts to fight
  25. terrorism. The leaders of other nations sit by while their
  26. citizens are kidnaped, but Israel is fighting fire with fire.
  27. By abducting Sheik Obeid, this brave country gave the murderous
  28. Arabs a dose of their own medicine.
